B.A.M.S- Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery

The genesis of Ayurveda dates backs to the Vedic era of our country. Ayurveda is an amalgam of two Sanskrit words, Ayur (life) and Veda (knowledge). It is a 5000-year-old medicine system which has been used for healing diseases and chronic illnesses with the aid of nature. 

 Ayurveda is based on the principle that the proper health is an equal balance between body, mind, and spirit. It is believed that diseases and illnesses originate when there is an imbalance of three energies- Vata(air), Pitta(fire), and Kapha(water). Pursuing a career in Ayurvedic medicine has become popular among the students in last one decade. Many state-level and university-level colleges offer courses in Ayurveda.

B.A.M.S( Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) is a professional degree in Ayurveda offered by Ayurveda colleges in India, Nepal and, other South Asian countries. The course duration of this professional degree is five and a half years which includes compulsory rotatory internship of one year. The course comprises of the study of anatomy, social and preventive medicine, herbal medicine, toxicology and other subjects.

After successful completion of the degree, B.A.M.S graduates use the suffix of “Vaidyar” ( abbreviated as Vr.)

 

Who are eligible for pursuing B.A.M.S?

Those who have qualified 10+2 examination with Physics, Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry and preferably Sanskrit.

Students should have qualified NEET UG for applying to top-tier Ayurvedic schools.

Selection to Ayurveda Schools is done on basis of final merit- 10+2 score and NEET score.

 

How is B.A.M.S beneficial in career-making?

Ayurveda is widely accepted throughout India as it has its origin from our country.

Many pharmaceutical and chemical companies have now turned towards Ayurveda. They are recruiting Ayurveda researchers for carrying out innovative experiments

Ayurvedic medicines are considered more credible as it is prepared from natural herbs and do have side-effects. Nowadays, people are inclined towards natural living and they prefer intake of natural products.

 

Fees Structure: Can vary anywhere between 3,000 to 15 Lakhs depending on the college.

 

Salary after completion of the course: Rs. 2.5L- 6L
